Why are some countries richer than others? Why has income inequality increased in recent years? Why do Canadian politicians worry when other countries are on the verge of bankruptcy? Economics can answer all these questions.
Economics studies how individuals and society make choices in a context where resources are limited. It is interested in the production, distribution and consumption of goods and services. Economic science mainly deals with the following two themes: efficiency (the absence of waste in the use of resources) and equity. Since making choices is at the center of all human activity, the study of economics often provides a better understanding of the behavior of people and governments.
