Bachelor of Science (Hons) – Chemistry (OZV) (Optional Co-op) (French)

Program Summary

Chemistry is a modern, dynamic and diverse discipline that studies the substances that make up our physical world, as well as their evolution. Since it is interested in all the matter that surrounds us, this discipline has ramifications in almost all fields of study in science and engineering. Chemists play a key role in developing drugs, understanding and modifying biological processes, and manufacturing materials for advanced electronic devices. Their work is also of critical importance in fields as diverse as genetic engineering, forensics and the oil and gas industry. More recently, chemists have made notable contributions in the fields of nanotechnology and new “green” technologies, particularly in the manufacturing of new sources of sustainable energy.
The Department of Chemistry and Biomolecular Sciences of the Faculty of Science offers programs in chemistry, biochemistry and biopharmaceutical sciences. These programs include the following options: medicinal chemistry, genomics, advanced materials chemistry, ecochemistry and chemical biology. Lectures are supplemented by practical laboratory training, leaving ample room for individualized teaching.
This program is offered in French and English.
NOTE:   The University of Ottawa offers a partial tuition fee waiver scholarship to French-speaking international students. This significant contribution to financing their study project allows for a considerable reduction in tuition fees.
