The art history major and minor provide an excellent foundation in modern and contemporary art history, museum studies and curatorial practices, as well as a good knowledge of critical and theoretical discourse in these fields. Our teachers focus on an interdisciplinary approach by bringing in perspectives borrowed from aesthetics and philosophy, feminist and gender theories or linked to post-colonialism, identity, globalization, and new technologies.
Students play an active role in Ottawa’s arts community by participating in curatorial projects on campus and elsewhere in the city, visiting national and municipal galleries and museums, participating in internships, and attending classroom presentations by curators, artists, and visiting professors.
Our graduates pursue careers as exhibition curators, collection curators or directors in museums or galleries, in arts organizations or foundations, in libraries or archive centers, or as editors in art journals or other publications of this kind. They can also pursue master’s or doctoral studies in art history or museum studies and curatorial practices, among other disciplines.
